Boullier announced as Renault’s new team principal

January 5, 2010

Eric Boullier is to be Renault’s team principal it was announced today. Boullier said:

I am incredibly proud to be joining the Renault F1 Team as team principal.

Renault is one of the most famous and successful names in motorsport and I look forward to leading the team into the new season. In the past Renault has demonstrated that it is one of the top teams in Formula One and I am sure that with hard work and determination we can challenge at the front once again.

Bell, who had taken over as team principal after ‘Crashgate’, is to remain with the French squad and oversee the production of the car.

This announcement will undoubtedly be a relief for the F1 team who has faced much uncertainty in recent times. Since back to back titles in 2005 and 2006, Renault’s form dipped and could only finish last season eigth overall. Boullier is targeting competing for the 2011 title but remains realistic for the coming season. With the Genii deal in place and this latest appointment the outfit has made some clear steps for the 2010 season.
