January 5, 2010

Flavio and MaxFlavio Briatore’s lifetime suspension from Formula One has been overturned by a court in Paris.

Briatore was banned for involvement in the plan to fix the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.”The court ruled the sanction was illegal,” the judge told the Paris court. The Italian was also awarded 15,000 euros in compensation.

Braitore said of the affair:

“In this case, the FIA has been used as a tool to exact vengeance on behalf of one man,

“This decision is a legal absurdity and I have every confidence that the French courts will resolve the matter justly and impartially.”

Piquet deliberately crashed his car with the intent of bringing out the safety car to help his teammate win. The Brazilian was granted immunity by the FIA in the summer for giving evidence, while the engineering head Symonds was handed a five year ban.

It is understood that the FIA’s legal team is to launch an appeal.
